Flow Yoga - Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa is a term that covers a broad range of yoga classes. The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement.” In other words, the teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. This technique is sometimes also called Vinyasa Flow, or just Flow because of the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance.

Iyengar Method Yoga

The Iyengar method can be described as skillful action. It emphasizes a balance between strength, flexibility and endurance. The method of study is orderly and progressive. It utilizes precision of movement and attention to subtle aspects of posture (asana) and breath (pranayama). Pilates

What is Pilates?
Pilates is an exercise system developed by German native, Joseph Pilates, back in the early 1900s. During this time, western medicine was in its infancy, and there were few treatments to offer patients other than surgery and morphine. The healing process required extended bed rest, which led to muscle atrophy, loss of aerobic capacity, and a weakened immune system. Joseph, working as an orderly at a hospital on the Isle of Man of England, developed a system to strengthen muscles, increase flexibility, and improve overall health for his patients, using the springs and pulleys on the hospital bed frames, thus developing the idea for the Pilates Reformer. At the beginning of WWII, Joseph fled to America. During his passage, he met his wife Clara, and together they opened the first Pilates studio in New York City in 1926. Making a strong impression on the dance community, his training and rehabilitation efforts led to other styles of Pilates Reformers and exercises. Joseph was ahead of his time with his ideas and inventions, and unfortunately he did not get much recognition during his lifetime. It was not until the 21st century that Pilates began to achieve popular recognition, and today, over 10 million people are now practicing Pilates in the United States.
